Author Laura Stamp: Pagan Paranormal Erotica Novelist

Laura Stamps
HOT Vampires, Shapeshifters & Witches

Naughty Reader’s: Hi Laura! Thanks for visiting with us this week. Tell us a bit about yourself  that our readers might not know.

Laura: I am Seelie Fey, Wiccan, and a Fey sorceress, as well as a bestselling Pagan Erotica Novelist. Yes, it’s true.  I’m only half human (Fey wink).  My novels land on the Amazon Kindle Top 100 Wicca & Witchcraft, Erotica, and Vampire Romance Bestsellers lists many times each year, and my popular blog has been published as a series of memoirs.  A full time author for 25 years (55 books published), I write romantic Pagan erotica with hot sexy heroes (vampires. witches, shapeshifters, Fey).  My work has been published in over 1000 magazines, literary journals, and anthologies worldwide.  I am the recipient of a "Pulitzer Prize" nomination and seven "Pushcart Award" nominations.  I live next to a state forest in an antebellum-style home with my 2 husbands, Ken and Wes.  Both Alphas.  Uh-oh.  They constantly keep me smiling or laughing or both. Usually both.

Naughty Reader’s: What made you want to become a writer?

Laura: I majored in fine art in college and was a professional artist (painter) until I switched careers at 30.  My art prints are still sold worldwide by my fine art publisher (Haddad’s Fine Arts, Inc., in California).  My paintings were actually stories I created with paint.  When I switched careers and became a writer I began “painting” my stories with words.

Naughty Reader’s: Please share a bit about your new release “A Vampire’s Desire” without giving away any spoilers.

Laura: A Vampire's Desire: Book Two of the Manigault Vampires came out two days before Thanksgiving.  Troy Cantrell is six and a half feet of gorgeous man.  He’s also a powerful Wiccan Witch and a newly turned vampire.  The owner of a popular Pagan shop, Troy has successfully avoided love relationships for 44 years.  Like all commitment phobics, he’s got an excuse.  He’s just never met “the right woman.”  That is until a Wiccan High Priestess walks into his shop on an unusually warm afternoon in January.  Her long, silky black hair, intense psychic aura, and red leather boots capture Troy’s heart for the first time.  Unfortunately, Ravenmoon isn’t interested in a serious relationship, especially with a man like Troy. This is a funny, romantic, fast-paced, erotica novella, and the second book in “The Manigault Vampires” series.  From the moment these two alphas meet they struggle for control in and out of the bedroom.  Get ready for a high-energy ride.  It’s smokin’ HOT!

Naughty Reader’s: Do you write under a pen name?

Laura: No, I use my real name because I’m proud of the empowering Pagan erotica I write.  I’m waaaaay out of the “broom closet,” so that’s no biggie.  My fans appreciate how “real” I am, and this is part of it.

Naughty Reader’s: What types of hero or heroine do you like best?

Laura: The majority of my heroes are Gammas (part Alpha, part Beta).  I’ve always attracted Alpha men as lovers, and my two husbands are Alphas (although Ken is more of a Gamma now).  I can tell you for a fact Alpha men are NOT romantic guys.  Always boggles my mind most heroes in romance and erotica novels are Alphas.  Talk about writing “fiction.”  Lmao!!!

Naughty Reader’s: Tell us about a typical day in your life as a writer.

Laura: This is the coolest question.  No one has ever asked me this before, and I’ve done hundreds of interviews.  Thanks!  Okay, this is a typical day for me:

9:30am (wake up and spend 3 hours on Tumblr, Twitter, LinkedIn, answering fan mail, taking care of writing biz stuff on my iPhone and iPad)

11:30am (sex with my hunky hubby, Ken)

1:00pm (breakfast)

2:30pm (shower sex with my hunky hubby, Ken)

3:30 – 8:00pm (writing, writing, writing)

8:00 – 8:30pm (run 2 miles…I’m a runner…10-12 miles/week)

8:30 – 9:00pm (make dinner for my two husbands…I’m an organic vegetarian)

9:00pm – 1:00am (check in at Tumblr and LinkedIn, answer fan mail, edit the current chapter I’m working on)

2:00am (crash for the night, sometimes more sexy fun with Ken…Well, we’re both Fey.  ~lusty grin~)

Naughty Reader’s: Do your books have a common theme or are they all different?

Laura: All of my books are Pagan, empowering, and connected.  “The Witchery Series” is the main series.  “The Rune Witch Series” and “The Manigault Vampires” are erotica spinoff series.  I’m creating another spinoff series this year called “The Faery Witch Series.”  I’m a literary writer so I don’t use a formula.  Every book tackles a different issue in a different way since all my books are character-driven.  They have strong character development, a fast pace, plot, subplots, romance.  All the spinoff series are erotica with lots of hot sex.  The main series is not erotica.

Naughty Reader’s: How long does it take you to write and then edit a story?

Laura: I started out in this biz 26 years ago as a literary poet, and most poets write first drafts by hand.  I continued doing that when I switched to fiction, so all the first drafts of my novels are handwritten in spiral-bound notebooks.  That usually takes 6 weeks for a novel.  Editing can take 8 months or longer because I am a meticulous editor.

Naughty Reader’s: Do you have to be alone to write?

Laura: Yes, and I need complete silence so I can hear my characters talk to me.  I am psychic and spirits talk to me all day long.  I have to be able to tell the difference.  This is important because, like I said, all my plots are character-driven.

Naughty Reader’s: How do you go about naming characters?

Laura: My series are set in the Deep South, so I use names that are common for this part of the country.

Naughty Reader’s: Is it easier to write about the characters if you find pictures of them before you write or do you write then find character pictures?

Laura: No, my characters show and tell me what they look like through mental images.  I’m always shocked when one of my fans will find a pic on the web that looks like one of them.  The only exception to that would be Troy in “A Vampire’s Desire.”  He is a clone of my sweet hubby, Ken.

Naughty Reader’s: What are you working on now and what should readers be looking forward to from you in the future?

Laura: Right now I’m writing like crazy!  I’m working on 3 new novellas in two series (“A Vampire’s Embrace: Book Three of the Manigault Vampires,” “The Sensuous Faery: Book One of the Faery Witch Series,” and “The Lusty Faery: Book Two of the Faery Witch Series”).  I’ve also been talking with film agents and producers interested in turning my “Memoir Series” and the first vamp novel (“A Vampire’s Kiss”) into movies, video series, cable, TV series, etc.  We are still in the talking stages, so don’t know more than that at the moment.

Naughty Reader’s: Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

Chapter 21

© Laura Stamps

When the elevator stops at the top floor Sara pulls her cell phone from the pocket of her jeans.  She scrolls through her directory to find Maylene’s number and types a text message with her thumbs:

Hey, gf, I’m spending the night w/ Dray at his place. Give Blaine a kiss for me.  Or a squeeze.  No, wait. Give him a squeeze first. Then kiss it & make it better. See ya on Saturday! Maybe. *wink*

Sara giggles when she presses the Send button, knowing Maylene will blush beet-red when she reads the message.  It’s one of the things she loves about her roommate.  The woman is just too easy to tease.

Unzipping the outside pocket of her backpack, she slips her phone inside and follows Dray down the hall.

When they reach his penthouse he unlocks the door and politely stands back, allowing Sara to enter first.  As she walks by, she can feel the heat of his gaze so she swings her hips a little to torment him.

Dray rewards her with a low growl.  After he closes the door, his hand slides possessively across her ass.  Then he walks past her toward the kitchen.

Sara follows Dray while he strides briskly through the spacious penthouse to the bedroom, which is just as she remembered it.  His home is decorated in a colorful, elegant mix of antiques and contemporary pieces.  But his bedroom is thoroughly masculine, furnished in dark woods and fabrics.

She plops down on the king-size waterbed and wiggles a little.  Waves of water flow from her body like rays of the sun, rippling beneath the black silk sheets.

A wry grin curves the corner of Dray’s mouth when he notices her playing with his bed.  “Sugar, you’ve got to be two-natured Fey.”  Chuckling, he disappears with his luggage into a large walk-in closet.

When he returns the black blazer is gone, and his feet are bare.  Lifting the edge of his cashmere sweater, he pulls it over his head and tosses it on a chair.

Sara hums with appreciation and licks her lips suggestively.  Watching him undress, she aches to touch him.  She has no idea when he finds the time to work out, but his lean, sinewy arms and well-defined abs tell a different story.

“You look like hungry woman,” Dray remarks, gifting her with a scorching smile, one that would melt any woman’s panties.  Certainly hers.  Then he unbuckles his belt and slips off his slacks, tossing them on the same chair with the sweater.

“Dear Goddess, you’re a tasty package,” Sara purrs.  No longer able to resist, she leaps off the bed and moves toward him.

Completely nude, Dray stands motionless and allows her eager fingers to travel over his firm chest.  He inhales sharply as she dips her head and licks his nipples, swirling her tongue around each cinnamon-colored disc.  When her hands move lower to stroke the silky skin covering his shaft, he swallows hard.

Sara can't figure out why he’s restraining himself, letting her play with his gorgeous body like this.  But she’s never been one to question good fortune.

“Have I mentioned lately that I love the fact you’re a commando kinda guy?” Sara whispers, circling her fingers around his thick cock and pumping it with a slow, steady rhythm.

Dray’s eyes flash as black as a moonless night.  “You drive me to distraction, sugar,” he replies, his voice huskier than usual.

And that’s all the warning she receives.

He moves so swiftly Sara squeaks with surprise when his mouth claims hers.  Framing her face with his cool fingers, he delivers a rough, sizzling kiss.  His wicked tongue invades, and the intensity of his need steals her breath.

Sara mewls with delight, pressing her body against his.  This is what she’s yearned for all week.  This and so much more.  Dray grinds his shaft into the crotch of her jeans and then jerks his lips from hers, stepping back.

“Darlin’, you have no idea how much I want you,” he confesses, lowering his gaze to the floor while he places his hands on his hips and takes a ragged breath.  “You haunted me in Vegas.”

When he looks up at her, his feral stare simmers with heat.

“Every time I closed my eyes I could see your pretty lips wrapped around my dick.”  His voice cracks as he struggles for control.  “No one has ever given me a blow-job in my office.  And never at a time when Val could walk in on us.  Only you would do that to me.”  He shakes his head as if he still can’t believe what happened.  “Damn, if I didn’t love it.”

“Only me, huh?” Sara teases, giving him a saucy grin.  “You need to get out more, bat-boy.”

Dray rakes his hand through his hair, tangling the long tresses as they tumble to his waist.  “But I’ve spent all day on planes and in airports.”  He takes another deep breath and exhales slowly.  “I need a shower first.”

“Yum,” Sara replies, trying to lighten the mood.  “Nothing I like better than licking a squeaky clean man.”  She waggles her eyebrows, and he laughs.

Even so, his confession pleases her.  It’s nice to know she’s not the only one who’s been suffering from sexual frustration this week.

But the seriousness of his mood is puzzling.  She can’t understand why he struggles for control when he’s with her.  Why can’t he let himself go?   He obviously wants her.  It’s written all over him, from his smoldering eyes to his tense posture to his visibly erect shaft.

Still, she senses this isn’t the time to push him.  Not yet.

Dray cocks an eyebrow, and a wolfish grin tugs at his sensuous lips.  “When I come back I expect to find you in this bed wearing nothing but your sexy lingerie.”

Sara raises her arms and shakes her hips, causing the faery charm to dance on the silver ring piercing her navel.  She strips off her sweater, dropping it to the floor.

“Bossy, aren’t you?” she teases and sticks out her tongue.

“I am your boss, darlin’.”

“Only until five o’clock.”  Sara lifts her chin defiantly.  “And it’s almost six.”

Grinning, Dray shakes his head.  “I don’t care, sugar.  I want you in that bed when I return.”  He bends down and picks up her sweater, tossing it on the chair with his clothes.  Then he walks into the bathroom.

Sara toes off her boots and shimmies out of her jeans.  As soon as she hears the shower running she follows him, wearing only a lacy camisole and boy shorts.

Steam clouds the mirrors in his luxurious bathroom.  Moving quickly toward the shower stall, she glances at the fluffy towels stacked neatly on the black marble vanity.

“Now that’s a playpen,” she muses, when she passes a huge sunken bathtub.  “I’m definitely giving that baby a test drive.”

Turning toward Dray, she can see the outline of his lithe, muscular body through the wavy glass of the door.  Sara stifles a groan.  More than anything she’d love to jump him.

Right now.

In the shower.

For wet, wild sex.

In fact, her frustrated libido is screaming at her to do just that.  But she needs to torment him first.  He deserted her for an entire week.  Now he tells her he suffered as much as she did.  The man needs to realize the next time he leaves on a long business trip he should warn her.

Or take her with him.

“Oooh, that would be fun,” Sara purrs.

Imagining the wicked possibilities that idea inspires, she grasps the handle and opens the door of the oversized shower.

Dray turns under the streaming water.  Immediately, his eyes darken like nuggets of coal and roam her lingerie-clad body.

“You like?” Sara asks.  Standing outside the shower stall, she cups her sensitive breasts.  Then she lifts the small, swollen globes and offers them to him, pinching her beaded nipples through the sheer fabric of the camisole.

“Fuck.”  Rinsing the last shampoo bubbles from his silky hair, Dray watches Sara while she pleasures herself.  He swallows, and the tendons in his neck stretch as taut as wires.

“I thought so.”  Sara strokes her breasts and moans when a jolt of desire pools in her belly.  Twisting her sensitive nipples, she whimpers with need.  When she presses her thighs together for relief she notices Dray’s rigid shaft twitch in response.  He’s so hard the bulbous head of his cock bobs against his flat stomach.

“What are you doing, sugar?”  His voice vibrates off the tile walls of the shower, sounding more like a thunderous rumble than a question.  He grabs a bar of soap, slicking its creamy lather across his chest, and the spicy fragrance of sandalwood scents the spacious bathroom.

“Just playing,” Sara replies and winks at him.  She strips off the camisole and drops it on the floor.  Raising her arms over her head, she smiles enticingly at Dray.  Then she reaches back and removes the band from her braid, combing the flaxen tresses with her fingers so they flow across her shoulders and down her back.

“I thought I told you to wait for me in the bedroom,” he warns.  But his gaze follows her small, firm breasts as they rise with every strand of hair she unwinds.

“You know what, Dracula?”  Sara gives him a Fey smile and fluffs her hair.  Her hands slide across her flat stomach and slim hips, caressing her smooth, pale skin.

“I’m almost afraid to ask,” Dray replies.  He steps beneath the shower spray, and the steaming water washes the soap from his body.

Sara shrugs, pretending to look apologetic.  “I’m not very good at following orders.  I guess you’ve noticed that.”

Flicking the silver navel ring, she dips her hand inside her panties.  Her finger slips between her drenched folds, and she gasps as she circles the swollen nub of her clit.

“Dear Goddess,” she groans.  Her head falls back, and she almost closes her eyes.  Instead she looks at Dray, her lids heavy with desire.  When her legs begin to tremble he clenches his jaw.

“Damn.”  Hot water streams down Dray’s muscular body as he watches her strum her clit.

Slowly.

Erotically.

“You like?” Sara whispers, close enough to an orgasm she can almost feel the first coiled tremor.

“Yessssss,” he hisses.

She lifts her hand, holding it up to show him the glistening cream coating her finger.  Stripping off her panties, she leaves them on the marble floor.

As Sara brings her finger to her mouth a feral groan rolls from Dray’s throat.  It’s the kind of sound a man makes when he’s been pushed to the edge of his control.

Smiling triumphantly, Sara drags her moist finger across her bottom lip.

“Come here,” he commands, when her tongue flicks out to taste herself.

Before she can move, he lurches toward her and captures her hand.  Sucking her finger into the hot depths of his mouth, he laps up every drop of her sweet juice.

“Vixen,” he accuses and nips her finger as he releases it.

“You’re just figuring that out, bat-boy?”  Sara purrs with expectation when he pulls her into the shower stall and the circle of his arms.

“I’m learning, darlin’.”  Tucking a strand of honey-colored hair behind her ear, Dray smiles slyly, looking more like a predator than anyone’s prey.

Then his mouth crashes down on hers, and he takes possession.

Author Interview with Phoenix Johnson - New Release "The Wolf in the Neighborhood"

Phoenix Johnson
Erotic Paranormal Author

Join us as we picnic near the cool blue waters of the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia. With a blanket in tow, a basket of fruit, chocolate and pre-mixed mimosas, we'll meet Phoenix on the strip of sand above. The weather is awesome for a bit of tanning and we are delighted to be wearing flip flops; seeing how in the states it's still chilly.
Phoenix is giving away an eBook copy of her new release. Details below!

Naughty Reader’s: There's Phoenix! Hello there! While we spread out the blanket tell us a bit about yourself  that our readers might not know.

Phoenix: With a previous interview, I discussed goals. This time, for something people don’t know, I make mention of my music tastes. Eclectic to say the least. The playlist on my phone includes LMFAO, P!nk, No Doubt, Sugar Ray, Green Day, The Dresden Dolls, Dashboard Confessional, Steam Powered Giraffe (awesome band who dress like robots, check them out on Youtube!), plus throw in some Metallica, Beatles, Meatloaf, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Linkin Park, Michael Buble, Bryan Adams… Ok I think you get the point. Many a different artist in there. I have odd tastes.

Naughty Reader’s: What made you want to become a writer?

Phoenix: Well I was always an avid reader. I seriously could read 5 books at once and not confuse them! So when I was about 13 I gave writing a go, and with the help of the English teacher I had at the time, I was going pretty well. Unfortunately he moved to a different school (funny thing is he ended up teaching my now fiancé!) and I eventually lost the will. I did get told a few years later that I should take it back up and this time, I’m not giving up!

Naughty Reader’s: Please share a bit about your new release The Wolf in the Neighborhood without giving away any spoilers.

Phoenix: It’s a paranormal erotic romance about an author, Krissy, and her hunky new neighbor-with-a-secret, Derek. The pair have chemistry from the start, when she is first caught sun-bathing nude on the roof-top of the apartment building. Unfortunately, her ex-boyfriend doesn’t want to let go easily. Throw in a former military, now door-attendant, Mike, who has a crush on Krissy, and things get interesting!

What do you do when your past comes back to haunt you?
Could a dark secret revealed by a new lover be something you could overlook just to have him?
What kind of secrets could you learn to live with for true love?
Krissy has a hunky new neighbor with a dark secret; Derek is a vet with an interesting past. They hit it off quickly but when Krissy’s abusive ex, James comes to town, Derek shows a side Krissy never could have guessed, but James refuses to give up.
Can Derek’s secret save them, or will James have his revenge?

Naughty Reader’s: Do you write under a pen name?

Phoenix: Indeed I do, because I view my arrival back to writing as the beginning of something new, rising from the ashes of my former attempts at writing to become an even better writer. Thus I am Phoenix.

Naughty Reader’s: What types of hero or heroine do you like best?

Phoenix: Both the hero and the heroine have to have spunk and spine, lots of sass but not afraid to share emotions, as long as they aren’t overly sappy. Something paranormal, like being a witch or a were doesn’t hurt, either!

Naughty Reader’s: Tell us about a typical day in your life as a writer.

Phoenix: Typical day usually starts with me dragging my butt out of bed when the 4 year old wakes up, fixing her and myself some breakfast then catching up on anything online while she watches cartoons (and the cat runs around like a madman after being shut in the bathroom because he is still a teenaged cat). After a while, depending on what needs to be done online (from blog post to uni study), I’ll then go over to the lounge chair and pull out the laptop, which isn’t connected to the horribly distracting inter-webs and try to whip the muse in to gear. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. All of this in between making lunch and then eventually dinner, and trying to keep cat and kid from fighting too much makes for interesting days sometimes.

Naughty Reader’s: Do your books have a common theme or are they all different?

Phoenix: They are all different for the most part, though most of them are of the paranormal genre/subgenre. Only two so far aren’t. But all of the leading ladies have had a mind of their own; Krissy wasn’t afraid to be herself from the start in Wolf Smitten, however Bailey from Acapello’s Lady (contemporary western styled romance) is more reserved to begin with. And of course all the leading men are hunky; there needs to be some sort of spice in there, whether it’s erotica, erotic romance or romance.

Naughty Reader’s: How long does it take you to write and then edit a story?

Phoenix: It depends entirely on 3 things: the story, the muse and my mind. I’m having a bad case of baby brain right now, so the writing thing is going a lot slower than usual, and my muse has disappeared because of it. However, I did manage to get The Wolf in the Neighborhood written and ready in about two weeks, as an example. Once Bitten Twice Shy and Leader of The Pack, books two and three, however took longer. Once Bitten took about 4 months, I believe, and Leader of The Pack took a painful 8 months. Yet Persephone, which was my story for NaNo in 2012, took only a month to get 5/6’s of the way through, at 48k words. I’m yet to finish it thanks to this baby brain, but I am very close, and time-word count ratio, it’s been my quickest yet.

Naughty Reader’s: Do you have to be alone to write?

Phoenix: No, not usually. I tend to find I can’t concentrate if it’s too quiet. I can’t write if someone is talking to me, but if there is another person in the room, either on the internet or watching tv or something, then I write best. I need some form of background noise to be able to concentrate, and the presence of another person.

Naughty Reader’s: How do you go about naming characters?

Phoenix: This differs between characters. Sometimes I’ll get stuck so I’ll ask a friend for some ideas, based on a rough description of the character. Other times the name will jump at me. Take Persephone for example (Paranormal novel of the same name). Her name jumped at me. With other characters in the story, I asked for a few opinions, and for the names of the horses, I did research. It all depends on whether the character is speaking strongly to me or not.

Naughty Reader’s: Is it easier to write about the characters if you find pictures of them before you write or do you write then find character pictures?

Phoenix: For Derek from Wolf Smitten, I was struggling with him until I started searching for sexy werewolves. Too many pictures of Jacob from Twilight came up, but I eventually came across Alcide from "True Blood", played by Joe Manganiello. Of course, being that I don’t watch True Blood, I didn’t realize he was in the show, I just knew him from "How I Met Your Mother". Anyway, once I found that picture, his character just came to me a lot easier. Persephone was similar; her story flowed once I saw a picture of a red winged angel sitting on rocks near crashing waves. Some characters I need to actually see, otherwise are so chatty that I don’t need the picture, or have time to find one because they just won’t pipe down!

Naughty Reader’s: How do you pick locations for your stories?

Phoenix: The characters tend to pick them for me, actually. Krissy seemed to be a New Yorker with her sass and independence. Bailey I knew would be in a more rural, country type state of the US since she was a horse breeder, so that was a matter of researching smaller towns until I found the right one. And then there’s Persephone. There was no way she belonged anywhere in the real world, no matter how much I tweaked it. So she’s from a world much like our medieval times, but one where women were able to be free. In most towns, anyway. If the characters don’t tell me straight away where they are, however, the location is eventually revealed. I tend to leave it up to them to tell me. It is their story after all, I’m just the one channeling it.

Naughty Reader’s: What are you working on now and what should readers be looking forward to from you in the future?

Phoenix: I have a number of works in progress at the moment, some of which I have mentioned. Persephone is a paranormal novel, full of magic and heartbreak, very much like the books I used to read when I had more time. Acapello’s Lady is a western styled contemporary romance about a shy young horse-breeder who is drawn out of her shell by hunky escaped convict, Joe. Jeannie’s Cowboys is a short story, and my first attempt at m/f/m. This one just needs to be fleshed out a bit, plot-wise, and it should be good to go. And then of course there are books two and three of Wolf Smitten waiting for editing, plus a short story about vampires and four sisters who are trying to make their life away from the insanity of their Master. Not to mention a few other stories I’m working on!

Naughty Reader’s: Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

Phoenix: I can be found at numerous spots online, such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, my Blog, my site and even Goodreads. The Wolf in the Neighborhood can be bought direct from Naughty Nights Press (it’s #5 best seller!), Amazon and Amazon UK, All Romance eBooks, Barnes and Noble, Smashwords and Kobo. Of course, I do also love to know what readers think of The Wolf, so don’t be afraid to leave a review!
