Meet In The Raw Author Nikka Michaels!
Readers love to know more about their authors.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
Nikka: I’m honored to be here today and thanks for
having me. I’m a writer, a reader and a Seahawks fan that lives in Portlandia.
I love to cook, am a huge music fan and chocolate addict.
Some of us have things we do to get into the
writing frame of mind like music, or drinks. Do you have anything special you
do to get into the writing mood?
Nikka: Music, reading, watching the news and talking
to friends all gets me into the writing mood. I also tend to drink way too much
Coke while writing, much to the dismay of my dentist.
Where do you keep story ideas? Where do they
come from?
Nikka: I keep story ideas in my ever-expanding “plot
bunneh” file in my computer. They come from everything: conversations with
friends, songs, TV shows, the news, books I’m reading, from everywhere.
Are you a daytime writer, nighttime writer, and
do you have to be alone to write?
Nikka: Both. It depends on what I’m writing, really.
If it’s sexy times, then alone is necessary.
What advice would you give to new authors?
Nikka: Be patient. Writing is 100% hurry up and wait.
Do you write better when you first have an idea
of what your characters look like or do you write, and then add character
looks?
Nikka: It depends on the story. Some I’ve began
without having a character’s appearance in mind, some I’ve started with their
personality first, then added their looks.
What attracts you most about men?
Nikka: Sense of humor. If you can’t make me laugh, I’m
not going to be attracted.
We’re dying to hear about your latest book.
What can you tell us without spoiling the storyline?
Nikka: My latest book is co-written with Eileen
Griffin and entitled In the Raw, coming October 6, 2014 from Carina Press:
James Lassiter has had a crush on fellow culinary student
Ethan Martin for three years, but has never had the guts to make a move.
Putting himself out there is hard, especially when under the thumb–and
wallet–of his overbearing parents. Now that bad boy chef Ethan–who is always
vying with Jamie for best in class–is struggling with the pastry course, Jamie
suddenly has a reason to reach out.
Ethan doesn’t mean to be an ass–okay, so mostly he does–but
even though he’s secretly hot for Jamie, he sure as hell doesn’t want help with
pastry. Ever since his dad walked out, Ethan has been the one to hold things
together and he’s done fine on his own. Except that he can’t get his cake to
rise.
Jamie could be the answer to what Ethan’s been missing his
whole life–someone to depend on. But with the two competing for the same
scholarship, things suddenly get too hot to handle. And if Jamie finds the
strength to go for what he wants, he isn’t about to settle for what he needs.
Where can our readers find you and your books?
What is your favorite nighttime snack?
Nikka: Probably popcorn and an extra large glass of Coke
with ice.
Do you like toppings on your ice cream?
Nikka: Lots of them! My favorite is hot fudge.
What’s your favorite meal - Italian, Mexican,
Thai, etc?
Nikka: All of the above! No, my favorite meal is
a well-made cheeseburger and hand cut fries. Best thing ever.
