Author Nicole Ryan - Interview and Giveaway!

We're sitting onbench, facing a pretty water fountain, in the small courtyard under the Space Needle. It's partly cloudy with a chance of rain here in Seattle but that won't hinder our interview with Nicole Ryan. True North Westerners are used to getting wet this time of year.

Nicole invited us to chat with her and would love for you to join, too. Comments are welcomed and be sure to enter the giveaway. Details below.

Naughty Reader’s: Hi Nicole! We're excited to introduce you to our readers. Thank you for inviting us to visit Seattle. Tell us a bit about yourself  that our readers might not know.

Nicole: Well, I joined the military after I graduated high school, for a four year tour, and now I’m 24 years old, married and have two kids.

Naughty Reader’s: What made you want to become a writer?

Nicole: I began writing poems and little stories when I was eight years old and lived with my grandparents for a year. My grandfather was a writer and poet and he taught me a lot about writing to express how I felt about things. I guess it sort of came naturally. When I got into junior and high school I took, and enjoyed every writing class offered at my schools.

Naughty Reader’s: Please share a bit about your new release Castles Burning Part Two without giving away any spoilers.

Nicole: Castles Burning is a series of little novellas, they follow Amber, she’s just discovering BDSM, she really knows nothing about it except what she is stumbling upon as the story progresses. Part two is the story of her journey after the tragedy she suffered in part one, and now she is learning to love and trust again, in her own way, and if you’ve read any of my short stories you know of course that is with lots and lots of sex! New characters are introduced that are fun and saucy, and we even take a trip to Singapore. Amber instantly has a connection with Dean who is quiet and loving, but she’s pulled by Adam who is dark, and knows more about what she craves than Amber could ever dream. If you’re looking for a love story this won’t be for you, but if you’re looking for adventurous kinky sex, that takes place on a fictitious Navy ship full of sex rituals, it might be right up your alley.

Naughty Reader’s: Do you write under a pen name?

Nicole: Yes, I’m not sure how my grandfather or nana might feel about me writing erotica.

Naughty Reader’s: What types of hero or heroine do you like best?

Nicole: I love to be able to identify with the hero or heroine on some emotional level, Anne Rice is the master at connecting her readers with the character on an emotional level, it’s so rewarding to not just read, but to experience the story!

Naughty Reader’s: Tell us about a typical day in your life as a writer.

Nicole: I get up at six in the morning and get coffee started…I’m pretty sure the stereotype about Seattle and coffee are true. I try to write and do social media for an hour or two until the kids wake up, then it’s breakfast and daytime routine. I squeeze writing in where and when I can, I make a point to write something, anything more than a paragraph each day, even if they’re on different stories, as long as I add to them I’ve accomplished a little goal.

Naughty Reader’s: Do your books have a common theme or are they all different?

Nicole: I think they’re all pretty different, there may be a common theme with the characters though, they are all discovering their own beauty and potential in one form or another… and of course though experiencing their own sexuality.

Naughty Reader’s: How long does it take you to write and then edit a story?

Nicole: Oh, it depends on the story. Home for the Holidays came to me one day and I wrote it out in two hours, edited it a couple of times over two days, had it proof read and it was on Amazon. But Castles Burning part three is still in the works… months later. As a self-published author, editing and reading from start to finish carefully skimming for mistakes is what takes the longest. I find it hard to make sure my mind isn’t just plugging words in as I go along, it takes so long to edit!

Naughty Reader’s: Do you have to be alone to write?

Nicole: I prefer to separate myself from the kids, at the dining table writing while I can see them in the living room. It makes it way easier to concentrate but it’s not really an issue, I save the steamy scenes for after bedtime.

Naughty Reader’s: How do you go about naming characters?

Nicole: This is really weird, but I kind of let them name themselves, or each other. As I’m writing a story I wait until one of the characters is addressing the other in conversation, whatever name rolls into the verbal exchange is who they are, otherwise I find myself using similar names or favoring a beginning letter, I try to be careful of redundancies.

Naughty Reader’s: Is it easier to write about the characters if you find pictures of them before you write or do you write then find character pictures?

Nicole: Sometimes I’ll be writing a story and an image of an actor will pop into my mind and I’ll use bits and pieces of them for descriptive purposes, but other characters are completely their own person in my mind. Other times I’ll see a photo that grabs my attention and tells me “that’s who the reader should see when they read this.”

Naughty Reader’s: How do you pick locations for your stories?

Nicole: I mostly use fictitious places drawn from areas I’ve been, or lived before.

Naughty Reader’s: What are you working on now and what should readers be looking forward to from you in the future?

Nicole: I’m working on the third installment of the Castles Burning series and a continuation of Chastity’s story, she’s the heroine in my short story Home for the Holidays, it’s my first romance erotica, and doesn’t have any BDSM themes in it.

Naughty Reader’s: Where can readers find out more about you and your books?
Nicole: I’m on Twitter, @NicolRyanAuthor; my Amazon Author page and my Website. I love to hear from readers on Twitter and my website!

From the Author:
I am a self published author, I just do my own thing, with explicit sex scenes and BDSM sprinkled about... plots are usually small and to the point, no use drawing out too long between steamy scenes, right? If you're looking for fifty shades or crossfire you won't find that here, they are not the inspiration for my erotica, though they have been for many others. If you're looking for a quick, steamy read that isn't just straight up porn, has a little bit of a plot element to it, and get's you hot and bothered, you've come to the right place! I write what I was always looking for but never found, I hope I can give you what you're looking for too! I always keep you updated on upcoming stories, and share excerpts and snippets from my stories on my website, and blog if you'd like to try a sample before deciding on a story!

I'd love to hear from you!

Castles Burning Part Two
Excerpt: (click here to read a longer excerpt)

I stood stone still as he gazed at me while he still sat on the desk, and his hands reached up and unbuttoned the top of my coveralls. My breasts lifted and fell with my breathing but I made no move to stop him as his fingers found the zipper of my coveralls and pulled it down to my waist; displaying the white undershirt clinging to my body. He splayed his hand across my tummy and then wrapped it around my waist to pull me closer to him, my heart was thrumming in my chest and I licked my bottom lip to moisten it.

“You are so beautiful Amber, far too beautiful of a creature to be placed so,carelessly on display for so many to see.” He murmured.

My breath caught in my throat at his words and at the sight of his eyes roaming all over my body. His thick black hair begged to be pulled but I held my hands still at my sides, slowly he turned his face up to mine. I inhaled sharply and my eyes widened as he slid his left hand, which held no ring, around my back, inside my coveralls and up the back of my shirt. He pulled me to him, holding me close, my breasts in his face as he looked up at me. He rested his palm in the arch of my lower back, and as my breasts heaved in front of him he let his eyes drop to them appreciatively. I felt like I might fall apart.

“When a man possesses a woman with your passion, he has a duty.” He told me as his right hand sought the seam of my white shirt and lifted it slightly up to show my belly button, his delicate touches raised the tiny hairs along my flesh. He smiled brightly and his thumb caressed the skin between my navel and my pubic bone. “He must entice her. Excite her.” He said bringing his lips to my stomach, his dense stubble scratching across my sensitive skin.

Slowly his hand came away from my back and both of them slid to my shoulders as he stood up before me, his fingers under my coveralls. I looked up at him and watched him press them down my back, he stopped when my upper body was exposed, and the sleeves that were rolled up to my elbows caught. They still covered my forearms and he held them behind my back, looking down at me pensively before he suddenly twisted the dark blue material into a knot, pinning my arms together behind my back. He savagely spun me around by my wrists, planting my back against his front. I gasped as his hands found my breasts and massaged them brutally, his mouth seeking out my neck. His fingers came up to the collar of my white shirt and I saw the muscles in his forearms flex as he violently tore the material apart, and then yanked my bra down freeing my breasts over the tops of the cups.
