Meet Rae McCartney - Erotic Romance Author

Rae McCartney
Erotic Romance Author

Welcome to our interview with erotic author, Rae McCartney. This is one classy lady and her books will make you want more! She has invited us to sit with her outside on this sunny day on the balcony of Scarlett’s family villa near Provence France overlooking the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean. Scarlett is the heroine of her series, Lovers Undercover. Rae is giving away a copy of book one, Impassioned, so be sure to get in on the contest below before you leave by leaving a comment. You can earn additional entries if you choose. Good luck and let's get started!

Naughty Reader’s:  Rae, this is beautiful out here and so peaceful. Tell us a bit about yourself.

Rae:  *wicked laugh* - Well I guess what I could tell you is that I’ve been an ‘extra’ in some local movies. Crowd scenes, that kind of things, and one was a zombie movie. It’s just fun and Atlanta has become a mecca for movie making, the Hollywood of the South if you will.

Naughty Reader’s:
We're impressed! Congrats and we can hope that continues for you! What made you want to become a writer?

Rae:  I always wanted to become a writer - it was something that got put on the back burner. You know - have to pay the bills first. Then as I got older I started taking out old manuscripts and re-reading them and after that rewriting them. I have done the traditional publishing route - rejection after rejection.  I’m quite independent and I like to retain control of my “babies” so once this ebook phenomenon began, I decided to give it a shot and here we are. And I wouldn’t change a thing.

Naughty Reader’s:  Both of us are self-pubbed as well and we feel the same way. Please share a bit about your upcoming release, Devoted, without giving away any spoilers. An excerpt would be great for the readers!

Rae:  Lovers Undercover: Devoted is the second of a series I started. It picks up pretty much where the last one did. Logan and Scarlett have been recruited by the Feds to assist in bringing down a monster, who happens to be someone they both know. It takes them into a world Scarlett knows nothing about - and Logan has to teach her. Outside of that there is more from the last book - Logan’s career as a singer, they travel extensively and we get a peek at Scarlett’s family. The ending is pretty intense.

Excerpt: Devoted

The dress I wore, which he had picked out for me hung in a straight line below my breasts. The sheer fabric clung to my breasts, my décolletage showcased for all to see. Nothing too out of the ordinary for Paris—we had been seated in a discreet corner of the dining room thanks to Keller earlier. Logan, knowing every part of my body I’m sure was able to make out my most private parts and I hoped no one else could.

We entered through the heavy wooden doorway, past the door attendant—more likely bouncer where we were met by none other than Lisa. Logan immediately noticed her go over us with a fine tooth comb.

“Good evening, Scarlett, Logan,” she purred. “So glad you made it. I know Richard will be pleased to know you are here.” She extended her arm indicating which direction for us to walk. “I thought you might like a drink while you wait on Richard. He has some client’s he’s busy with, but he’ll be with you shortly.”
“Thank you, Lisa,” Logan replied as he put his hand on the small of my back.
“Scarlett, where are your nipple huggers or your nipple clamps?” She stared directly at my see through dress as though in horror.
I opened the small evening bag I carried and pulled a pair of silver-looking nipple huggers out. “I have them right here, Lisa. I thought it a little inappropriate to wear them at the restaurant we had dinner at.”
I knew Logan had forgotten all about them. They were something he hadn’t introduced me to, but I was sure now wished he had.
Lisa seemed to be appeased and nodded her head as she led us to a booth. “Champagne?”
“Yes, that would be lovely. A fresh, new bottle, however for my sub and myself, please.” Logan was taking no chances that Richard might have drugging us planned.

Naughty Reader’s:
Do you write under a pen name?

Rae:  *winks*  Yes I do, but which one is the pen name and which one is real? Hmmm?

Naughty Reader’s:
Privacy can be an issue when an author writes erotica so we have to hide sometimes! LOL What types of hero or heroine do you like best?

Rae:  In a hero I like them to be of strong character who knows what he wants in life and goes after it. Same with a heroine - I hate wimpy, whiny women.

Naughty Reader’s:  Tell us about a typical day in your life as a writer.

Rae:  Typically I spend the afternoons and/or evenings writing. BUT if a great idea pops in my head I will drop everything and write.

Naughty Reader’s:  Do your books have a common theme or are they all different?

Rae:  Right now they have a common theme since they are part of a series. I am researching/developing a stand alone that will be similar (erotic) but at the same time totally different. I know that makes no sense but that’s the only way I can explain it right now.

Naughty Reader’s:  Readers, hope all of you are taking notes! New books on the way! How long does it take you to write and then edit a story?

Rae:  That’s a tough question as Devoted was a thorn in my side for a while. LOL! It’s been six months in the works. Four to six months is the norm though.

Naughty Reader’s:
That's not a bad timeline. Creativity takes time! Do you have to be alone to write?

Rae:  Absolutely! I can’t think otherwise, although I may have music on in the background.

Naughty Reader’s:
How do you go about naming characters?

Rae:  Most of the time they seem to name themselves, although on occasion I have seen a name somewhere that pops out at me and I’ll write it down to either use in whatever I’m working on or a future book.

Naughty Reader’s:  Is it easier to write about the characters if you find pictures of them before you write or do you write then find character pictures?

Rae:  Both - but to be fair I’ll say I usually start writing about them and find the picture later. Especially where the female characters are concerned. I can never find a picture of a woman character prior to writing. It usually emerges later - I’ll see something on the internet or in a magazine.

Naughty Reader’s:
How do you pick locations for your stories?

Rae:  Ah - I try to make them somewhere exciting because of the type genre I write. I mean erotic romance in the backwoods of Georgia wouldn’t sound as sexy as Monte Carlo or Paris, would it? LOL! No disrespect to the backwoods of Georgia, and I’m sure I could write some type of erotic romance, later down the road. And the locations are usually places I’ve visited and love.

Naughty Reader’s:  What are you working on now and what should readers be looking forward to from you in the future?

Rae:  Well a sequel to Devoted for sure. I’m only in the planning stages with that. I’ve got a stand alone I’m researching and developing and I’ve started on a shortie I hope to have out by the end of the year (fingers crossed).

Naughty Reader’s:  *Tonya's scribblin' in her notepad* Rae, this has been a blast and we wish you luck with the book tour in October. Readers, more notes...be sure to stop by her site and find our where you can join her tour! Where can readers find out more about you and your books?

Rae: My links are listed and I love to hear from readers so don't be shy!
